Chelsea Physic Garden

Beyond Botanical guided public programme

More than 90 visitors attended the ticketed launch of Beyond Botanical. Each received a copy of the book, which provided the structure for the evening through selected exercises and periods of independent observation.

The session began with a guided immersion, with Diana Vela performing live acoustic music as I guided participants to imagine encountering an unfamiliar plant and connecting with the root systems beneath the Garden.

The programme also included Field Notes, an exercise I had developed during an earlier research-led project focused on the Garden’s medicinal plant collection. Participants were invited to gather quick impressions as they moved through the Garden.

Participants kept their copies and could continue working through the book after the event.
